Little Adelaide Hills

Little Adelaide Hills is a proposal for the redevelopment of the Royal Adelaide Hospital site. Situated on the north-east corner of the Adelaide CBD, Little Hills is a collection of housing, community, university, cultural heritage, open-air market, arts and performance spaces. Serving the interests of a broad social spectrum, it brings new life to the adjacent universities, nearby cultural precinct, CBD and parklands.

Little Hills is a collector of narratives. A range of public, private and student housing draw together people from diverse backgrounds. Urban billabongs speak of the nourishing wetlands that once were. The women’s shelter continues the work of the women’s health centre. The Kaurna Cultural Centre tells the story of the land’s indigenous inhabitants.

Then there are the bigger hills – the performing arts centre and the community hub. These speak the language of earth and everyone on it. One green and tranquil, the other exposing its geology.

Environmentally, this project proposes repurposing many of the existing buildings, incorporating extensive green spaces and integrating with local bike bath and public transport infrastructures.
