Mount Martha House
The site is a hillside perch with sweeping views of Port Phillip Bay and Melbourne’s distant skyline. A home for a growing family nestled in the landscape, thrown open to its setting; a place of quiet comforts and shared adventures.
Upon arrival, a bare concrete pavilion rises from the brush. It straddles the sunken landscape and conceals the distant view. The sky overhead is a perfect hemisphere, holding everything in place.
Nearby, a steel shroud thrusts from the ground, leading downwards into darkness. Inside the air is cool and footsteps are the only sound. Guided by an ocean breeze, muted sunlight promises release, gilding stair and rail.
Finally emerging, a full and sparkling view of the bay in brightest blue, and a garden courtyard flanked by chambers of quiet retreat. Through open doorways, whispers of shifting blankets and turning pages wash with the shush of the tides.
